Hello from a busy stretch. The previous post took a million hours to write. This was last Friday and I worked on it all afternoon and into the night. By the time I finished, the day was no longer called Friday. I led small-group conversations Saturday and Sunday. The first one lasted three hours. We could have kept Sunday’s under four hours, had I not cried ten different times. That said, Catherine absolutely loves when we hit the four-hour mark, and I love seeing Catherine happy. Either way, much of the weekend was spent talking (and crying) on Zoom.
Yesterday I woke up to the news that Ever Get Home had been chosen as a featured publication, meaning this little space of ours is getting a lot of love across Substack right now. Check out sweet Gracie, front and center on the home page:
That intro was fun to write but this part is important: THANK YOU SUBSTACK.
In the last post I mentioned that my wins are less visible these days. Well apparently I was wrong because I’ve been getting new-subscriber notifications for two days straight. Which feels good and means a lot. So again, a huge thank you to Substack and I also want to thank everyone who took a moment to subscribe.
Whether you’re brand-new or you’ve been showing up for a few weeks now, I’m really glad our paths crossed. I truly hope that what you find here moves you. I hope the words offer comfort, make you smile, make you laugh. I hope you end up breathing deep and remembering you’re far from alone when it comes to being human.
Everything I’ve written so far has been public / free, but the next post will be for paid subscribers. Those who choose to pay get access to all future posts. They also get access to the community that’s forming in the comments and the chat. I’ve been spending a bunch of time there, responding to kind folks and really enjoying it. If you find value and you’re able to support this space financially, your commitment allows me to commit to writing.

Okay so like I said it’s been a busy stretch. I’m off to find some dinner and watch Game 1 of Lakers / Warriors. I love Steph and I love Steve Kerr but I’m not sure which team to root for. (My sister Emily lives in LA and I’m a sucker for those Lakers uniforms.) Hopefully we get a great series.
One last thing: I mentioned small-group conversations. There are four options for the month of May, including two new topics. These aren’t lectures or masterclasses. If you’re in the market to connect with like-minded folks who can relate to where you’re at, we would love to have you. Learn more here.

Update / Correction: It has been brought to my attention that my crying is not the primary reason Sunday’s group lasted four hours. Normally the nine of us are in separate rectangles on Zoom, and we fill those separate rectangles from our homes in separate states. Well last Sunday, Catherine and Colleen surprised us in a major way when they appeared side-by-side in the same rectangle. (Same room, same house, same state) So we spent some extra time talking about this, and they spent even more time than usual making each other laugh. Looking back, my crying (and speeches while crying) probably added five minutes. Those two being silly took a lot longer, but also it was wonderful.
Came here to say the same as Colleen. It def hit the 4 hr mark because we were in the same room. I’m so freaking happy you’re writing again, Jamie (happier than when we hit the 4-hour mark). You have a genuine gift and your words are so meaningful. Congratulations again on being featured!! Well deserved, my friend.
there’s no way we could have kept Sunday’s under four with the shenanigans of Catherine and I in the same box. no way. 🤣
